Peace & Anti-Bias

My work in Peace and Anti-Bias Education began as a student and continued through my work in classrooms and college classes. My Peace Education experience includes work with the Peace and Anti-bias Education Library. I provide trainings on early literacy, the six strands of Peace Education and the four goals of Anti-Bias Education for teachers and families to help enrich their support of children's growing identities and relationships with others in our complicated and diverse world.

With my experience with programs incorporating a wide variety of philosophies and practices, years of teaching curriculum courses, and decades of experience doing program assessments using the CLASS, Environment Rating Scales and other tools, I have developed strategies to help staff to create high quality experiences and environments for children.

Staff Development

Staff development is a compilation of information, activities and discussions that build on the knowledge staff and families already have. Reflecting on our teaching creates a practice that best meets the needs of individual children. It also builds more cohesion in a program.

Staff Coaching

Some of the most impactful work that can be done is individual coaching with teachers and directors to meet their learning needs. Just as with children, each individual teacher and director has a history, a philosophy and their own learning goals. When I coach I build on these strengths to help develop new skills in their practices. Working towards a clarity of a program’s Mission can be a tool for staff evolution and accountability.

Behavior Assessments

Sometimes children's behaviors challenge teacher's and families' skills. Behavior assessments are an opportunity to look closely at what motivates a child and how best to change the way we plan activities for them and intervene in meaningful ways to support their growing social and emotional understanding and skill set.
